Gran Turismo 5 Steering Wheel Review
If you are a fan of the Gran Turismo series, the Logitech PS3 Driving Force GT Racing Wheel, will take this series and other racing games from good to amazing. This wheel is made solid and comfortable to grip.
To use the driving force gt on your PC, all you have to do is download the free Logitech gaming software and you are off to the races. It has a 24-position real-time adjustment dial for on the fly adjustment settings.
The force feedback system works amazingly well with Gran Turismo 5. When ripping around the 6 courses of Gran Turismo 5 and when you bump into another racer or hit the grass, the wheel lets you know it with an appropriate amount of varied rumble effects.
The 900 degree wheel rotation is really nice. The wheel is 10 3/4″ in diameter and it auto centers as you accelerate out of a turn, making it feel just like a real car. For example, after you come out of a turn, the wheel automatically slides through your hands back to center. You don’t have to do this manually. This is really neat.
The biggest issue about this wheel is that if you want to race on other games that are not specifically supported by racing wheels, you will have wasted your money. Here are some of the racing games that other players have played with the wheel and have gotten awesome results, Gran Turismo 5, and Prologue, Burnout Paradise, Grid, DiRT, Need For Speed Pro Street, Ridge Racer 7, and Nascar 80/09.
Here are some of the features of the Driving Force GT wheel:
* 24-position real-time adjustment dial: Fine-tune brake bias, TCS, and damper settings on the fly.
* 900-degree wheel rotation: Go 2.5 times around lock to lock.
* Force feedback technology: Feel every inch of the road for maximum control and the ultimate racing experience.
* Gas and brake pedals: Get precise throttle and brake response with true-to-life pedals.
* Sequential stick shift: Go through the gears for the ultimate in control.
Playing with the Driving Force GT wheel makes racing games a hundred times more fun especially when you play Gran Turismo 5. You can feel the resistance during hard turns and the wheel starts to shake when you begin to drive faster.
Some of the minor complaints about the wheel that I have heard from other gamers is that the angle on the pedals are a bit high, which makes it difficult to drive with just your right foot; so you have to use both feet for driving.
In spite of these minor issues, if you want to get the most out of the newer racing games, getting this wheel is essential. This wheel allows you to do fine tune adjustments in turns and the throttle pedal can be easily engaged to 1/4, 1/2, or even full gas in some turns. You can’t do this with a standard controller.
