Valkyria Chronicles II Marches Today – Multiplayer Preview

Every time we post anything on Valkyria Chronicles, someone pipes up about how they never got past Chapter 7 in the first game. That battle threw a late-level boss and a massive (but by no means the game’s massive-est) tank at you – at the same time. It separated the men from the boys, if you will, and if you beat that chapter, you probably went on to beat the entire game.

SEGA has heard your pleas. In Valkyria Chronicles II – out today – you can bring a friend or 3 for the ride. I tried out the multiplayer recently, and it didn’t behave how I’d expect; even though this is a turn-based Strategy RPG, the you and your colleagues move at the same time, in real time. SEGA’s Aaron Webber tells us more:

Valkyria Chronicles II is out today, both on UMD and via the PlayStation Store.

R.U.S.E. Demo Hits PSN Today, PlayStation Move Details

As a dev team, we’re beyond excited to see the release of R.U.S.E. drawing near — it launches in the U.S. on September 7th, so we’re just about a week away!

R.U.S.E. enables players to use manipulation and trickery against their enemies. In fact, deception is at the very heart of R.U.S.E., and you’ll find that without it you cannot succeed. With R.U.S.E., we aimed to create an RTS that goes beyond the established rules of the genre — we sincerely hope we have succeeded. You will soon be able to judge for yourself, since we are making a demo of R.U.S.E. available on PSN today!

<!–

In the demo, players will be able to check out an exclusive mission from the Italy campaign and play as U.S. General Joe Sheridan, leading the U.S. army in a fight against Germany and Italy. The final objective: cut off a German offensive from withdrawing by attacking them from behind. Although the Axis forces are retreating in this mission, players will see that one should be very cautious when attacking a wounded beast… if you need a hint, or don’t mind spoilers, check out the “Divide & Conquer” video above, which outlines one of the numerous strategies you can use to bluff your opponent on the road to victory.

We’re really proud of the game’s compatibility with PlayStation Move. Since the early conception
phase for R.U.S.E., we wanted to create a strategy game plays equally well on PC and consoles, with simple controls and an interface that allows players to focus on the strategy, rather than the UI. Although the game plays like a charm with a standard controller, we couldn’t resist pushing things even further with PlayStation Move support. It is really a matter of matching philosophies: we want our game to play naturally, and PlayStation Move can provide games with this opportunity. So we used all the features of Move — optical, acceleration, and magnetic — to create smooth and natural interactions that allow you to change the view angle and zoom, control units and access the menu.

We hope you will have a great time trying the demo, please visit us at rusegame.com for more information about the game.

Slam Bolt Scrappers Playable at PAX this Week

OH MAN. Just a few more hours until PAX, where we’ll be showing off the most amazing demo of Slam Bolt Scrappers ever! Four-way multiplayer mayhem! Perilous battles in the lava flooded Volcano City! GIANT MAD ROBOTS, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. This is going to be incredible.

<!–

Now, it has come to my attention that there might be those of you out there who haven’t heard of Slam Bolt Scrappers before. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I mean, we’re talking Game of the Decade-level stuff here. A title that you will cherish and pass down to your kids along with family heirlooms. This will change your life and the lives of your unborn children’s children. I also guess I’m saying that I frequently overuse hyperbole.

Slam Bolt Scrappers for PS3

Slam Bolt Scrappers is a wild, mile-a-minute mashup of building and brawling where you and your friends race to build the greatest towers in Slam Bolt City, while defending against deviously charming baddies and epic bosses. The gameplay is different from anything you’ve played before (nominated for Best Game Mechanic of E3 2010 by Kotaku), and in conjunction with Sony Online Entertainment, we can’t WAIT for the game to come out as a PlayStation Network exclusive in early 2011.

But what’s this? You don’t want to wait a few months to play this game? You want to play it NOW? Well then we’ve got good news for you! We’ll be hanging out all weekend at PAX in booth #3834 showing off our goods to any fan, enemy, or dinosaur who happens to pass by and wants to give it a shot. Be sure to come visit, play the game, and talk to the actual game developers who will be manning the booth!
